Working with the Director, Airport Planning & Engineering, the Manager, Engineering leads and champions YEG’s Engineering function to support optimal performance of airport infrastructure through development to disposal. The Manager directs and performs administrative and professional engineering work and leads a professional technical team in support of engineering activities in compliance with our Professional Engineering Practice Plan. This role ensures best practices and sound engineering judgement are applied to all engineering activities and ensures compliance with airport and engineering design standards, approved plans and specifications.

• Provides engineering oversight, guides project teams, solves technical problems, and performs design reviews for compliance to standards using internal or external technical expertise.
• Ensures that Engineering activities performed at or on behalf of Edmonton Airports comply with Edmonton Airports’ Professional Practice Management Plan.
• Conducts engineering studies and investigations to support asset management, capital planning and operations and maintenance activities.
• Oversees and guides design efforts for airside infrastructure including terminal systems and airfield systems such as runways, taxiways, aprons, and lighting systems in compliance with Transport Canada regulations and Airport Standards.
• Oversees and guides design for airport terminal infrastructure including terminal improvements, renovations and expansions including mechanical and electrical systems upgrades.
• Oversees and guides design for groundside infrastructure including roadways, parking lots, underground infrastructure, and storm drainage systems.
• Participates in other facility and land-side development projects as needed to ensure tenant-initiated construction projects are compatible with the airport Master Plan, general airport needs and the Airport’s Minimum Standards.
• Provide technical assistance and insight on other airport facility developments as a component of design engineering.
• Works with stakeholders to develop medium- and long-term capital infrastructure programs.
• Supports asset condition assessment activities through internal and external consulting resources.
• Works with partners to identify systems and infrastructure needs and assist business units with the longer-term anticipation and planning of needs generated from changing business environment and technology advancements.
• Leads a well-managed unit within a defined budget and ensures alignment with the overall strategic plan of the business.
• Clearly defines expectations and success paths to promote a team environment that focuses on high performance, continuous improvement, and inclusivity.
• Management style that instigates a positive, healthy and safe work environment in alignment with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
• Effectively communicates and collaborates with partners and maintains strong cross functional linkages with all other SBUs to ensure key infrastructure is in place for future growth.

Special Requirements

• Post secondary degree in Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical or other appropriate discipline)
• Registered with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta, or able to obtain registration.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Engineering, Planning or Project Management.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in People Management (direct report or cross-functional).
• Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Self-motivated and results driven.
• Demonstrated skill and experience in establishing priorities, solving problems, and performing sound business analysis/reporting.
• Ability to facilitate meetings and lead continuous improvement discussions.
• Ability to influence decisions based on relevant business issues and supporting data.
• Advanced analytical skills with an understanding of business planning and reporting.
• Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills with the ability to present information in a concise, clear, and articulate manner.
• Ability to be flexible, adapt quickly to change and realign business priorities.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Power Point, Word, Access, and Excel).
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Must secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance and acceptable criminal records check.
