Superintendent, Operational Support

Description

As the Superintendent, Operational Support, you are responsible and accountable for the mechanical, maintenance and reliability of all airport systems and critical equipment at Edmonton International Airport and Villeneuve Airport, ensuring the continuance of airport activities without disruption. The Superintendent, Operational Support will be responsible for the asset management; including maximizing utilization, replacement, upgrading, maintenance and tracking of critical airport systems. This role will oversee safety standards and provide strong safety leadership, while also leading a 24/7 maintenance function.

• Provide input to the Manager, Facilities Maintenance on services plans and directions, ensure an appropriate understanding of Edmonton Airports strategy, and ensure on-going effective positioning and appropriate relationships between other positions in the Facilities Maintenance, and the rest of Edmonton Airports.
• Develop, implement and review stratum appropriate (3 - 12 month) business plan within the context of the Facilities Maintenance plans (including mission, vision, values, strategic positioning, operational plan and resource plan).
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPI) for equipment performance through maintenance practices and product condition, evaluating equipment and maintenance costs and making recommendation for replacement. The position will implement cost effective maintenance strategies for optimized reliability of equipment, maximizing productivity while minimizing cost, keeping the airports at their optimum.
• Create and manage a strong team of employees, including determination of optimal numbers, recruitment, retention, and development.
• Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics by tracking airport maintenance activities and collaborating with the planning and maintenance department.
• Develop, implement and review the safety program processes to ensure compliance to policies, procedures, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks in the performance of duties
• Plan, organize, and oversee the maintenance reliability of systems, such as passenger loading bridges, baggage conveying systems, powered doors and pump systems.
• Establish work plans for staff to implement, repair and maintain airport infrastructure. Duties also include managing service contracts and suppliers, attending regular meetings, oversee the lifecycle of the equipment, and proactively identifying and addressing action items and concerns.
• Develop and administer the department annual business plan and yearly goals and objectives in support of corporate goals and targets.
• Collaborate with other department Superintendents and Planners to ensure that the 24/7 shift team has an adequate planned workload while ensuring availability for reactive work.

Special Requirements

• Completion of a mechanical diploma from a post-secondary institution or certification as an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Millwright
• Must have 5 years in an Industrialized, Manufacturing or Airport environment performing related duties
• 5 years of leadership experience
• Experience developing preventative and predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, and reliability analysis.
• Excellent organizational skills are required; a history of managing budgetary responsibilities and multiple contracts effectively is required
• Experience writing complex, detailed reports, facilitating meetings and presenting to large groups is considered an asset
• Track record of improving processes and increasing efficiency while demonstrating a commitment to health and safety
• Experience in auditing for regulatory requirements
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety
• Excellent trouble shooting and analytical skills
• Proven safety leadership to ensure departmental compliance with SOG’s, safe work practices and policies is required
• Ability to secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance, Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit, and criminal record check is required
